AI Photography Naming Conventions

How to effectively name Products, Actors and Environments so you stay organized with Vision.

Products

For apparel and hardware, the goal is high searchability. By using a standardized string, you can filter your project library by brand or product type instantly.

The Pattern: {Product_Type} - {Brand} {Model} {Color/Variant}

  • Example: Glasses - Stellar 500 - Matte Black
  • Example: Sneakers - Nebula Fast Pace - Blue
  • Example: Handbag - Pelletteria Uno - Siena Brown

Pro Tip: Always put the Product Type first. When you sort alphabetically, all your “Glasses” or “Sneakers” will group together naturally.

Actors

In AI photography, consistency is king. If you find a face that works, you need to be able to cast them again across different campaigns. Treat your actors like a professional talent agency would.

The Pattern: {Name} - {Gender} - {Key Features} - {Ethnicity/Vibe}

  • Example: Lena - Female - Blonde, blue eyes - North European
  • Example: Satoshi - Male - Brunette, brown eyes - East Asian
  • Example: Yolanda - Female - Brunette, brown eyes - Central African
  • Example: Marcus - Male - Salt & pepper hair, beard - Mediterranean

Why this works:

  • Search by Feature: Need a blonde model? Just search “Blonde.”
  • Localization: You can quickly find actors that fit the demographic of specific global markets (e.g., searching “East Asian” for a Tokyo-based campaign).

By giving a real name to your actor you can remember them easier. That’s how our memory works with faces. Using a name like Satoshi or Lena creates a mental anchor that Model_01 simply can’t provide.

Environments

Environments are the “stage” for your shoot. Since AI can generate infinite backgrounds, you need to categorize them by Location Type, Vibe, and Lighting to ensure the mood matches your product.

The Pattern: {Category} - {Setting/Style} - {Lighting/Mood}

  • Interior - Minimalist Scandinavian Loft - Golden Hour
  • Exterior - Brutalist Concrete Street - Overcast / Moody
  • Retail - Luxury Boutique Showroom - High-Key Studio Lighting
  • Nature - Alpine Forest Trail - Early Morning Mist

Organizing by Vibe:

If your brand has a specific aesthetic, add a Vibe tag to the name. For example: Interior - Industrial Warehouse - [Gritty/Urban] This allows you to filter for all Urban assets when building a street-wear lookbook.

Best Practices for Vision Users

  1. Use Dashes, Not Underscores: Dashes (-) are generally easier for search algorithms to parse as word separators.
  2. Be Specific, But Brief: Avoid fluff words like “a very beautiful room.” Stick to the descriptors that affect the AI output.
  3. Version Your Iterations: If you have two versions of the same environment with slightly different lighting, use suffixes:
    • Interior - Minimalist Loft - Day v1
    • Interior - Minimalist Loft - Night v2
